My name is Rafael (Alonso) Perez. I live in Catford, South East LONDON, U.K., and as you'll hear (if you go to the MUSIC & LYRICS section), my styles are mainly Funk and Soul. I like Rare Groove, Jazz Funk, Acid Jazz, and anything that sounds funky or soulful, and authentic. I like many artists, but instead of boring you with a big list, shortly you'll see only a brief one, just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from with my music.
I play guitar, and I also play a bit of bass and keyboard. Although I'm more of a guitarist than a bass or keyboard player, I think it's important for me to do whatever I can myself. That's why apart from drums / percussion (which are sequenced), what you'll hear is me playing. I also write lyrics, however I don't usually sing, but I'm planning on changing that. I have roughly 20 finished songs (lyrics) at the moment (some of which you will find as part of the MUSIC & LYRICS section), and maybe about 250 pieces of music (in various stages of development). I plan to add as much music onto here as possible.
What you'll hear would be the latest or most complete (or my favourite) version of each song or piece of music. The main thing for me is to get my music heard, and most importantly, to get feedback, so do feel free to tell me how good or commercial my music sounds to you, or if you have advice on how to do any of what I do better.
Influences (and artists that I'm into, some of which probably influence me) :
Prince. I'm very much into his earlier and rare stuff, but I like pretty much most of what he does.
Also (in alphabetical order) : Brass Construction, Carlos Santana, Coke Escovedo, Isley Brothers, James Brown, Lenny Kravitz, Ohio Players, Roy Ayers, Sly & The Family Stone and Stevie Wonder.
